Los Angeles Flower Market

Yesterday my girlfriends and I went to the Los Angeles Flower Market.  The amount of incredible flowers they have there for cheap is overwhelming!

LA Weekend

With the 405 freeway closure and the supposed traffic that is to envelope the city this weekend, I have officially designated Saturday and Sunday as staycation days, and I can't wait.  I shall be accomplishing the following:
1.  Getting my ass kicked at a couple classes at Pop Physique.
2.  Work-day at my garden.
3.  Eat good neighborhood food, most likely here.
4.  Read my new book by Patti Smith while tanning on a rooftop.
5.  End the evenings with wine and a continuation of Docfest 2011 in my living room.

The Dude Sweater

What took so long, Pendleton?  The Big Lebowski sweater has now arrived, and I couldn't resist sharing.  Spotted via Cat Party

I'm pretty sure this day gets filed in Henry's top 10 funnest days ever.

Dream Bedroom

A little bit obsessed with this eclectic moroccan style bedroom via Elle Decor.

Alamar

Continuing on my little documentary-fest I've got going in my house recently, I just watched this gorgeous film Alamar by Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio.  It follows a little boy from Italy to Mexico to visit his father, a fisherman in the picturesque landscape that is the Banco Chinchorro Barrier Reef.

Wasteland

Beautiful portrait of Catadores (pickers of recyclable materials) in Jardim Gramacho, Rio de Janeiro's biggest landfill.  When Brazilian artist Vik Muniz visits to photograph the workers, they soon become involved in making replicas of their photos using material from the landfill, serving as active participants in their own art.

Giambattista Valli

In taking a well-deserved quick break from studying for the GRE to look at some pretty things, I stumbled upon Giambattista Valli's Fall couture collection shown earlier this week in Paris.  Incredible.  That cape with the dress, all the feathers and Grecian belts...so feminine and classic!

searching for the dress part II

Still searching for my wedding dress!  Thus far I've been very inspired by Grecian style, silky dresses with some sort of wrap detail on the bodice, like the Madame Gres dresses I saw in Paris, or like
J. Mendel's 2011 Spring collection.  Right now, I'm interested in the Reem Acra creations for Resort 2012.  I think that in the right wedding-dress-appropriate colors, these cuts could be gorgeous.

the fourth

After getting major sunburns on the beach the morning of the fourth, in the evening we all lounged on the rooftop to watch all the fireworks going off in LA.  My favorite "fireworks" were from the neighbors down the street who instead of spending money at a firework stand,
simply lit flares into the sky.  classy.

oooh, ahhhhh.

I'm posting this for my 13-year old self.  Girl Power.
