Saipua doin' it right

Here are some photos from a wedding that Brooklyn's fantastic flower arranging fairies over at Saipua did recently.  I'm so lucky to have my dear friend Asheley from Saipua working on flowers for my wedding (54 days left!).  Come work your magic girlfriend!

Forage!

How about these foraged flower arrangements by Louesa Roebuck?  I love these magnolia tree ones - and have kind of been convinced that I need to forage my flowers for my wedding...cause that's not time consuming, right?  Louesa is quite talented - she used to own the Oakland-based shop August which also featured beautifully creative floral designs often hanging from the ceiling.

Mackintosh Watercolours

I've been doing loads of research on the Arts and Crafts movement for my wedding design inspiration, and Mackintosh windows and architecture were the first things I thought of.  But these watercolours done by Charles Rennie Mackintosh are incredible.

Art is the flower.  Life is the green leaf.  How beautiful life is often, but think of the stupendous possibilities of the flower.

California Poppies

Thinking about incorporating the Poppy into our wedding invitations...I really like the design of this postcard set by Yellow Owl Workshop.

Los Angeles Flower Market

Yesterday my girlfriends and I went to the Los Angeles Flower Market.  The amount of incredible flowers they have there for cheap is overwhelming!

Peonies!

Has anyone else been totally floored by all the peonies around town lately?  They're just the most ridiculous flower.  Walking my dog by Gilly Flowers has turned into such a daily pleasure because of these little flowers!  Pictures by photographer Kari Herer.

Language of Flowers

In the Victorian ages, when it was improper to discuss your feelings through words, people became quite fluent in the language of flowers.  I love the idea that giving someone flowers is not only a sweet gesture, but can mean something incredibly specific.

But there is also such an art to flower arrangement, and after seeing the beautiful work that my dear friend Asheley does at Saipua everyday, I'm becoming obsessed.
FYI, the flower shop's owner was recently featured in NY Times Magazine, with some lovely tips on flower arranging here.
